Walk-in shower layouts: three ways to use the Aire Walk-In screen

Compact, standard or long shower area: how to choose between 80, 100 and 120 cm, where to place the shower head and the drain, and how to plan the floor.

Aire Walk-In, Walk-in shower screen in 6 mm tempered glass

A walk-in shower has no door: a single fixed glass panel keeps water in, and the entrance stays open. Aire Walk-In is a screen in 6 mm clear tempered glass, 200 cm high, in three widths. Here are three typical layouts to help you choose.

Layout 1: a compact shower with 80 cm of glass

In a small bathroom, an area about 90 cm deep and 120 to 140 cm long is enough. An 80 cm panel covers the part where you stand under the water, and the rest stays open as the entrance. Place the shower head at the closed end, on the wall that holds the glass.

Layout 2: the balanced choice with 100 cm

For most bathrooms, a 100 cm panel offers the best balance between protection and openness. It suits shower areas of around 150 to 160 cm long and leaves a comfortable entrance, generally at least 50 to 60 cm wide.

Layout 3: a long shower with 120 cm

In a long shower area, or if the shower head is close to the middle of the panel, choose 120 cm. The glass then protects most of the length and limits splashes towards the room.

Place the shower head and the drain carefully

Water should be sprayed towards the glass, never towards the opening. Install the shower column or head on the wall behind the glass, inside the protected area. The floor slopes towards the drain: a linear channel along the back wall or a drain in the shower area keeps water away from the entrance.

The floor

A walk-in screen gives its best result on a level-access tiled floor, without a step. It can also stand on a low shower tray. In both cases, the floor and walls of the wet area must be waterproofed before tiling. Plan the slope and the drain at the start of the works.

Fixing and adjustment

Aire Walk-In is supplied with the glass panel, a chrome aluminium wall profile and a stainless steel stabiliser bar that links the top of the glass to the wall. The profile allows ±20 mm of adjustment on each side, which compensates for walls that are not perfectly plumb.

Keeping the glass clear

Tempered glass is a safety glass: if it breaks, it shatters into small blunt pieces. Wipe it with a squeegee after each shower to limit limescale, and clean it regularly with a mild product.

Frequently asked questions

Which width should I choose for a walk-in shower?

80 cm for a compact shower, 100 cm for most bathrooms, 120 cm for a long shower area or when the shower head is near the middle of the panel.

Does a walk-in shower splash outside?

Not if it is well planned: place the shower head on the wall behind the glass, spray towards the panel and slope the floor towards a drain away from the entrance.

Can Aire Walk-In be installed on a shower tray?

Yes. It works best on a level-access tiled floor, but it can also be installed on a low shower tray.
